Well, I figured out where I’m going when I die. I came across this columbarium dedicated to #Cubs fans at Bohemian National Cemetery in Chicago. If you’re going to spend eternity somewhere, you might as well doing it hanging out with people who share a common interest!

My high school has seen better days, you guys. It closed down about a decade ago and is due to be town down soon and replaced with condos and townhomes. I had a lousy time there and am not shedding tears to see it go, but I did have some wonderful teachers there and made some good friends. I hate to see it in such rough shape with all the graffiti. And the dicks on the walls. So, so many dicks. Some people’s sense of humor never grew past high school I guess.

I’ve thought it might be fun to try and collect autographs of the people whose stories I’ve written. Thanks to the @baseballhall store, I have my first two. I wrote about Wayne Terwilliger earlier this year when he died in early February, and I visited Fred Sanford’s grave in Salt Lake City a couple of years ago. With the costs of baseball memorabilia being what they are, I don’t think I’ll be looking for Tom Seaver or Ty Cobb anytime soon, but finding some of the game’s lesser-known autographs could be fun.

Little man and I are at the #hbcu game between @gramst_baseball and @famu_baseball_ at CoolRay Field. It is SO GOOD to watch live baseball again, even if we’re having to stay socially distant. Extra shoutout to the third base ump who tossed my son a ball.

Here lies James Keenan, in an unmarked grave next to his wife, Isadore. Keenan was a 19th Century catcher known for two things: his skill as a catcher and his good looks. Those two are actually related. Catchers had no special protective equipment to protect them from foul tips, runner collisions or bad pitches. So if you were a handsome catcher and didn’t want to end up looking like you’d been kicked repeatedly in the face by a mule, then you’d better have had good defensive skills.

A look at some vintage @braves uniforms on display at Truist Park, from the Boston Beaneaters days to the more modern varieties. Also thrown in there was their ill-fated Boston Bees rebrand. The ‘82 powder blue uniform is the one I can first remember.
