Stockton Ports bullpen catcher among three killed in car accident

The Stockton Ports, the Single-A affiliate of the Oakland A’s, announced that bullpen catcher Angel Muñoz died in a car accident on Sunday, December 2. Muñoz, 19, was killed along with two of his friends, Sean Acosta, 20, and Kurtis Acosta, 19.

The Modesto Bee reports that the three Stockton, Calif., residents were driving in a truck in Turlock when the vehicle went off the road, hit a tree in a sidewalk planter and struck a light post and car wash sign.

The Ports Twitter account (@stocktonports) announced Munoz’s death, stating “We will remember Angel as a baseball-loving, always-smiling presence in our ‘pen, & offer our deepest condolences to Angel, Kurtis, & Sean’s families.”

The Stockton Record reported that Muñoz was a 2017 graduate of Aspire Langston Hughes Academy and played on the baseball team. His teammates remembered him for his encouragement and friendship.

Two GoFundMe accounts have been set up for the victims. Click here for Angel Muñoz and here for the Acosta Brothers.
