Katherine Herring James, 7/11/1933-11/4/2018


RIP to Katherine “Katie” Herring James, an outfielder in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. She died on November 4 at the age of 85. James played for the Grand Rapids Chicks in 1953.

James batted right and threw right, according to her bio on the AAGPBL website. The Oklahoma native began playing baseball when she was around 20 years old and played in 10 games for the Chicks. Unfortunately, her stats are not available on the AAGPBL website.

James married her husband, Paul, the following year, and they were together for 59 years. He was a master sergeant of the United States Air Force for 21 years. They had two sons. According to her obituary, James attended the 75th anniversary reunion of the AAGPBL in Kansas City earlier this year.
